The CHAPA Competency Management System
Welcome to the College of Hearing Aid Practitioners of Alberta (CHAPA) and our updated online Continuing Competence Management System for the College's Continuing Competence Program (CCP).
The Continuing Competence Program is a system of assessing, maintaining, enhancing and monitoring ongoing knowledge, skills, attitude and judgment of a health care professional. The CCP is a way of ensuring a high-level of expertise, competence and ethical behaviour in performing the job. The CCP is mandated by Alberta's Health Professions Act.

Continuing Competence Program Steps
Here are the 4 steps you need to complete each Plan Year to comply with the College's Continuing Competence Program.
1. Self-Assessment of Practice: rate your practice strengths by completing the self-assessment forms based on competency elements documented in the CHAPA Competency Profile; review and update at least once a year.
2. Analysis of Self-Assessment Results: analyze your self-assessments ratings, especially the DEV(2) and DTE(4) to identify and prioritize areas for continued and new learning.
3. Personal Learning Plans / Records: prepare your annual learning plan based on your self-assessments. As you complete your learning activities, update your learning plan records. (Please see Learning Plan Right vs. Wrong Examples on how to do this correctly).
4. Learning Activities Reviews: provide anonymous feedback to the College and your colleagues on the quality and value of learning events in which you participated.
IMPORTANT: Your competency data is saved in real time, so there is NO need to "submit" or "send" it. Also, to help you complete your Continuing Competence Program requirement, you may find the following checklists helpful:
The CHAPA Continuing Competence Program cycle begins on December 1st of one year and continues through to November 30th of the next year. This means you begin a new set of CC Program documents on December 1st. The Plan Year coincides with end of the cycle. For example, activities undertaken from December 1 to November 30, 2015 fall into the 2015 Plan Year and are reflected as 2015 activities on the Learning Plan.
